Wamboin Community Association

St. Andrew's Church

The Sutton Road Mission District (SRMD) is the name given to our local churches. St Andrew's Wamboin is on the corner of Norton and Poppet Roads Wamboin and St Peter’s Sutton is on the corner of Middle and Camp Streets Sutton. While we are in Communion with the Anglican Church of Australia, we are a diverse group and warmly welcome everyone, regardless of denomination to share with us.

St Andrew’s first service was held in the Wamboin Community hall in 1985. In 1998 the first service was held in the newly built St Andrew’s church on Poppet Road. St Peter’s in Sutton is over 150 years old.

Originally associated with St John's Canberra, on 1st October 2012, St Andrew's and St Peter's joined together to become the Sutton Road Mission District, one congregation sharing two campuses and now function independently as a local community church in Wamboin and Sutton areas.

  • Services at St Andrew’s Wamboin are at 9.30 am with Holy Communion on the first Sunday and Praise and Worship on the third Sunday of each month.
  • Services at St Peter’s Sutton are also at 9.30 am with Holy Communion on the second Sunday and Praise and Worship on the fourth Sunday of each month.
  • Services on the Fifth Sunday are a little different and alternate between Wamboin and Sutton.
  • Special Services are held for Good Friday, Easter Day, Christmas Carols, Christmas Services and New Year’s Eve.
  • The church also encourages the study of the Christian Faith through Advent and Lenten studies and a Passover Sedar meal.
  • We also assist the Wamboin Community Association in their annual Christmas carol service in the lead-up to Christmas.

Morning teas, after each service, and other social events are part of our fellowship. We make an open invitation to all people to come and join us and hope you might find our churches will become a spiritual home for you.

Pastor Royce Thompson, the Archdeacon in Charge, is the Team Leader and the Pastor for both churches and their communities.

The congregation encourages the use of the churches by our community. For example, the Bridge Club, the Wonderful Women of Wamboin, the Book Club, craft groups and Land Care have been meeting in the churches.
